Sailing day!

After I don’t know how many years and months of waiting, sailing day has finally arrived! Negative Covid tests done and documented we went for a walk through nearby Hyde Park and had coffees at QVB to fill in the morning.

Ship boarding was open from midday so we left Jake’s at about this time to get there after the initial rush had died down. There was still long queues when we arrived. Step 1 – check in went smoothly and relatively quickly. Step 2 was customs. Unfortunately the security screening after customs was back-logged, so they made us sit for about 15 minutes while we and the customs staff twiddled our thumbs. Customs also went quite quickly once they let us in – but the security screening took ages! It was about 3:15ish before we were finally on.

Our room Aloha 710

Our Travel agent had advised us not to select a specific room on booking but instead pay for a “guaranteed minimum” level of stateroom, as in her experience this usually resulted in an upgrade. She was right! We had paid for an Oceanview room but got upgraded to a Balcony.

We had just enough time to unpack and settle into our rooms before the Sail Away party at 4pm.
