Manta, Ecuador
I have to say we threw caution sonewhat to the wind during our visit to Manta. None of the ship shore excursions really appealed to us and similarly my on-line research did not find what I wanted – a simple tour to the rainforest to see if I could sight a sloth. Instead we decided…

Panama Canal transit
The much anticipated Panama Canal day had finally arrived. We were up early to see the pilot board at 6:30am. Panama Canal is the only place were the ship’s captain hands complete control over to the pilot. We also had about 2 dozen lines men board (but I wasn’t aware of that until the end…

New York City (day 2) – Central Park
With baseball and a Broadway show ticked off the NYC to-do list, today it was time to do Central Park. We had spent a short time in Central Park last visit after going to the nearby Museum of Natural History. However being winter it was very, very cold. Today was the complete opposite – overcast…

New York City (day 1) – Baseball & Broadway
We had a very early start this morning setting the alarm for 5am so that we didn’t miss the view of sailing past the Statue of Liberty scheduled for 5:15am. Having braved the rain to get a photo, it was off to the treadmill on the gym to watch the rest of the sights glide…

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
We have experienced fog on and off during our cruise. However this morning was the first time we have ever docked in fog. The good old Bridgewater Jerry had nothing on this fog – from the ship you could see nothing past the railing! However, by the time we were ready to disembark, it had…

Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada
Sydney was our 4th Canadian port. It was about the same size as Corner Brook but it featured a heritage district and a nice water front. First we explored the heritage area which took us left of the ship. Having done this loop, we then explored out to the right side of town which took…

Saguenay, Quebec, Canada
Our visit to Saguenay was more about the journey through the fjord than the destination itself. Because it did not have a whole heap of touristy things to do, it was very much a geocaching and taking in the local way of life day for us. We waited until the heavy rained passed before setting…

Quebec City, Canada
Despite the forecast heavy rain we arrived in Quebec City to beautiful sunshine. We set off early to make the most of the day before the rain arrived. Our first destination was to Petit-Champlain via the Quebec mural. This was a very pretty part of town. From Petit-Champlain there is the option to take the…

Cornerbrook, Labrador & Newfoundland, Canada
We received a very warm, friendly welcome from the citizens of Corner Brook and the weather turned on a beautiful sunny day for us. Our first goal was to head up to the James Cook memorial. After completing the climb we made our way back down to walk the Stream Trail. We finished our day…

Order of the Blue Nose
Tonight we had a party/ceremony to induct us into the ‘Order of the Blue Nose’, which recognises our crossing into the Artic Circle. Our new captain, Gavin Pears, who joined us in Cobh, Ireland is a real character and got a little carried away with the blue meringue!
