The next morning was another very early start with a 5am wake up and 6:15am departure for Cusco airport.

Most of the journey was through agricultural areas until we hit the outskirts of Cusco.

Our flight back to Lima was uneventful. At the airport we were met with a big bus to begin the 5 hour drive to Pisco to reconnect with the ship. While we had been away it had spent 2 days in Lima and then moved to Pisco.

Fortunately the drive was also uneventful. One third (11 million people) of Peru’s population live in Lima – a city were it never rains! There is of course a lot of poverty. The roads were busy and typical of a lot of other big cities we have travelled in – there were 5 lanes of traffic on a 4 lane road! A lot of people try to make their living by selling items at stopped traffic. I was amazed at what was being offered – from food, drink and icecreams to electronic gadgets and toys and games!

Once outside of Lima the scenery was of the Pacific Ocean and housing on one side and desert on the other.
