Prince Christian Sound, Greenland

Today we got a special treat – a detour through Prince Christian Sound. Two specialist Danish pilots had been boarded in Reykjavik to assist with this route which can only be achieved for a short period during the ‘summer’ months if conditions are right. Lucky for us they were!

Our transit through the sound started just after 10am and was completed at about 4pm.

My first iceberg!
They refer to these as ‘bergy bits’
Where’s the polar bears?

We spent the first few hours on deck before heading inside to warm up and dry out. For the afternoon we watched the scenery from the warmth of our stateroom with occasional braver periods on the balcony. We even braved a dip in the hot tub!

70 people live in this village – they must be very hardy as the sound is iced in for 9 months of the year.
