Reykjavik, Iceland

We arrived in Reykjavik at about midday. There were already 2 other cruise ships in – an MSC ship and a Viking ship. It was a very skilful job on the part of the Captain to berth us so expertly into our position. He had a mere 20m margin of error.

Having completed our trip to Blue Lagoon, and with many more hours of sunlight left until our 10:30pm all aboard time, we went for a long walk around Reykjavik.

Geocacher with a sense of humour!

Our starting point was the old harbour. From there we followed the sea wall around before cutting back into the city centre.

As we walked up the Red Road/mall we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to experience an Ice Bar. Chilled to -6 everything was made of ice – the bar, the walls, the tables and chairs. Even the drinking glasses were made of ice. Despite the gloves and warm coat we were given, we didn’t linger over our drinks!

Back outside it was of course still daylight and a more comfortable 12°

Don’t think I will indulge!

We had all been warned to keep regular checks on the time as the lengthy daylight hours can cause you to loose track of time. 9pm so it was time to start the walk back to the ship. We were surprised to come across a group of locals lying in their bathers on the grass after coming out of the sea for a swim!

Almost 10pm and the sun is still in the sky.
