We were beginning to think that all it ever did in Scotland was rain. But joy, oh, joy! Today, on our arrival to Invergordon, we awoke to a clear sunny day.
The first train to Inverness was due at 9:42am, so that gave us plenty of time to check out the little town centre of Invergordon which is known for its murals and ‘tank farm’.

Our trip into Inverness took just under an hour. It was predominantly through farming land. Unfortunately despite passing lots of cows, none of them were highland cows.

Our return options to Invergordon were either the 2pm or 2:40pm train. We decided to go for the safer option of 2pm so that there was still a back up train if something went wrong.

We spent our time in Inverness exploring the Old Town, the Victorian Market and Mark’s and Spencer food hall.

Back in Invergordon, with the sun still shining brightly and plenty of time before our 5:30 pm sail out, we did a wider exploration of the rest of the town. In addition to the tank farm that ran through the middle of the town, we found a huge whisky distillery.

The sail out of Invergordon was beautiful. It was also very interesting passing so closely to the many oil rigs parked in the Cromarty Firth.
