Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon was another repeat city for us, having visited here in 2012. We had driven in from Madrid and didn’t realise that we had crossed the Prime Meridian into a different time zone. It took us to the next morning, when we were super early for our guided tour of the city much to the surprise of the bus driver, for the penny to drop.

This time we got to see the city icons from a different perspective as we sailed in.

Christ the Redeemer – Lisbon

Today was another geocaching led adventure. Lisbon, like Rome, is built on 7 hills. Today, as we explored the Alfama area with its steep narrow streets and colourful tiled houses, we climbed at least 2 of them!

And up some more!
Until you get to the very top!

Another way to go up – the elevator
They love their tiled houses

Of course when in Portugal you have to sample the local Pastel de nata. Yum!

We were supposed to be in Lisbon from 12pm – 9:30pm. For some reason we were ahead of schedule and arrived by about 10:30am. Having done 30 000 steps as we walked around the city we were happy to call it a day and head back to the ship by 5pm. We had a choice of another hill or to walk back through the flatter CBD area. We chose the flatter route!

We were in our room in our pjs by sail away time when we retraced our path back out the way we had sailed in that morning.

Lisbon was our last Mediterranean port. We now have 2 sea days before we visit Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Ireland before completing the 2nd leg of the cruise at Dover.
