Malaga, Costa del Sol, Spain

Today’s city was a new destination for us, so we were excited to go exploring. Having purchased our 1 euro tourist map from the cruise terminal and with geocaches loaded we headed off before it got too hot and busy.

From the cruise terminal it was a short walk along an area called Muelle Uno before we reached the Botanical Gardens that then led us into the old town.

It was Saturday morning so the markets were in full swing.

We wound our way through the city streets and plazas collecting the odd cache here and there, depending on the crowds and our ability to work out what we might be looking for.

Having finished the highlights (and geocaches) of the town, it was time to tackle the inevitable climb up to the castle and fort.

Model of Malaga – to prove it was a steep climb!

Mark and I don’t consider ourselves particularly unfit (despite our current cruise tummies!) but we had to stop for regular water breaks on the way up. I have decided that invading armies must have been very fit to have enough energy left to sack and pillage once they reached said castle and fort!

Malaga was lovely, but with the temperature once again in the mid 30s, it was time to return to the sanctuary of our ship.
